The tim - The Augsburg State Textile and Industrial Museum - a museum for the future
On Wednesday, May 15, 2024, my trip took me to Augsburg to the tim, the Augsburg State Textile and Industrial Museum.
The tim offers an interactive and informative journey through the world of textiles and their significance for industrial and cultural development. It focuses on four central areas in a permanent exhibition: Man, Machine, Pattern and Fashion.
- People: The focus here is on the workers and their living conditions in the textile industry.
- Machine: This area shows the development and functioning of textile machines.
- Patterns: Visitors can discover various textile patterns and their history.
- Fashion: The exhibition sheds light on the influence of textile production on fashion trends and clothing through the ages.
There I was not only able to take part in an exciting Guidance but also to participate in a lively Discussion about sustainability with fashion students.
When I asked: "Why did you choose the fashion industry, which is responsible for so many CO2 emissions?" the students immediately had the right answer for me: sustainability, because this was an important aspect of their design process! Since I studied ecology myself and sustainability is an equally important topic for me, it is important to me to sensitize fashion students to sustainable production methods, such as having clothes sewn by local tailors. It was an exciting discussion with interesting young personalities!
Thank you very much for the great tour of the museum and the insights into a past that is still alive NOW and from which we can learn for the future!
